Matthew L. Cypher was the Director of Underwriting at Invesco Real Estate prior to his position at Georgetown University.  He was a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and Investment Strategy Group.  He currently sits on the board of Global Medical REIT and is the chairman of their Investment Committee.  He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Texas A&M University and a B.S. from the Pennsylvania State University.  His research has been publish in the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research and the Journal of Property Research.  He also actively writes for trade-level publications such as Urban Land.

Independent Director- Board of Vault Digital Infrastructure


Jeff Foster served as the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of DuPont Fabros Technology (DFT), a data center REIT, from 2013 until DFT was acquired in 2017. He also served as Chief Accounting Officer from 2007 to 2014. Foster built the accounting department so DFT could meet the requirements of SEC reporting and was responsible for budgeting and forecasts. Prior to DFT, Foster was Chief Accounting Officer at Global Signal, the first cell tower REIT. Mr. Foster currently serves as an independent director on the board of Vault Digital Infrastructure, a private equity backed data center company. He also serves on the boards of the Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Coast Chapter and the Child and Family Network Center which provides free pre-K education to underprivileged children in Alexandria, Virginia.

Brian Gill is a co-founding partner of Artis Advisors. Since 2008, Artis has completed more than $5 billion in capitalization and recapitalizations of all commercial asset types in the U.S.. Prior to forming Artis, Gill was an associate director in the capital markets group at Cushman & Wakefield in Washington, D.C. He serves as adjunct professor of finance and real estate at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and has also taught MBA students at George Washington University. Gill holds master’s degrees in business and economics from Northwestern University and the London School of Economics and a B.A. from the University of South Florida.

Sunil Madan joined the Steers Center for Global Real Estate in September 2015 and brings more than 20 years of real estate experience to the center.  He has worked in the United States, Europe, and Asia in the private sector, including within the commercial real estate debt groups at Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank. Having recently relocated to Washington from London and having worked in various parts of the world in real estate, Madan brings an international edge to the Steers Center and will help to build out the areas of real estate debt and our international strategy. Madan received a Bachelor of Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications from Manipal Institute of Technology and an MBA in Finance from Yale University’s School of Management.

Ashesh Parikh is a senior vice president of finance at The JBG Companies. With 14 years of experience in real estate and finance, he is responsible for financing across core asset classes and manages a portfolio from development and transitional real estate to stabilized. Parikh is a member of the Zell-Lurie Real Estate Center at the University of Pennsylvania and Urban Land Institute (ULI). He received a B.A. in history with highest distinction from The University of Virginia, and an MBA in real estate and finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

W. Edward Walter was the chief executive officer and president of Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. Walter joined the company in 1996 as senior vice president for acquisitions, and has held a variety of positions, including CFO. Prior to joining Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc, Walter was a partner with Trammell Crow Residential Company and the president of Bailey Capital Corporation. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of AvalonBay Communities, Inc.

George Yeonas

George Yeonas was the CEO of The Fortress Group, where he directed the reorganization and integration of twelve homebuilding companies in advance of the group’s sale to Lazard-Freres. Yeonas’ extensive real estate career ranges from master plan community design and development to loan workouts and restructurings. Previously, Yeonas was the chief restructuring officer for the Dutch bank Propertize B.V., where he was responsible for the liquidation of a $2 billion North American loan portfolio. Yeonas also served as the Chief Operating Officer at Technical Olympic, a national publicly traded homebuilding company with over $2.2 billion in revenue. Yeonas graduated from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University with a B.S. in Business Administration and received his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
