Faculty members are available to students for independent consultations, offer student research assistant job opportunities, advise student organizations, mentor and introduce students to opportunities within their field of expertise. Steers Center for Global Real Estate’s faculty conduct research that impacts the way the world does business.

Atara Kaufman Professor of Real Estate
Director – Steers Center for Global Real Estate

Matthew L. Cypher was the Director of Underwriting at Invesco Real Estate prior to his position at Georgetown University.  He was a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and Investment Strategy Group.  He currently sits on the board of Global Medical REIT and is the chairman of their Investment Committee.  He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Texas A&M University and a B.S. from the Pennsylvania State University.  His research has been publish in the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research and the Journal of Property Research.  He also actively writes for trade-level publications such as Urban Land.

Robert and Lauren Steers Chair, Steers Center for Global Real Estate

Jim Reid joined the Steers Center in July of 2019 as the Robert and Lauren Steers Chair for Global Real Estate. Reid will focus on enhancing the Steers Center brand through his global network. Further, he will teach the center’s foundational real estate course for undergraduates beginning in 2020.  Reid continues to serve as a senior advisor to CBRE where he has enjoyed a 33 year career as both a senior executive and, earlier in his career, a practicing brokerage and capital markets professional.  Reid held multiple executive positions at CBRE, including chief operating officer, Americas; president,  U.S. eastern division; and chairman, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Reid received an MBA from Harvard University and a B.S. in commerce from the University of Virginia.

George Yeonas

Managing Director, Steers Center for Global Real Estate

George Yeonas was the CEO of The Fortress Group, where he directed the reorganization and integration of twelve homebuilding companies in advance of the group’s sale to Lazard-Freres. Yeonas’ extensive real estate career ranges from master plan community design and development to loan workouts and restructurings. Previously, Yeonas was the chief restructuring officer for the Dutch bank Propertize B.V., where he was responsible for the liquidation of a $2 billion North American loan portfolio. Yeonas also served as the chief operating officer at Technical Olympic, a national publicly traded homebuilding company with over $2.2 billion in revenue. Yeonas graduated from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University with a B.S. in Business Administration and received his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Cheryl Laing

Events Assistant, Steers Center for Global Real Estate

Cheryl Laing is the events assistant for the Steers Center for Global Real Estate. Previously, Laing was an executive assistant in the accounting department at JBG Smith (formerly known as The JBG Companies), a commercial real estate company in the D.C., MD and Virginia areas. She worked closely with the department’s tax team to ensure REIT compliance and facilitation of department projects. Prior to JBG Smith, Laing was an operations associate at Hilton Grand Vacations in Washington D.C.,where she assisted in startup operations of Hilton’s sales team, creating the branches standard operating procedures and best business practices. Laing graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in communications and marketing.

Independent Director – Board of Vault Digital Infrastructure

Jeff Foster served as the executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of DuPont Fabros Technology (DFT), a data center REIT, from 2013 until DFT was acquired in 2017. He also served as chief accounting officer from 2007 to 2014. Foster built the accounting department so DFT could meet the requirements of SEC reporting and was responsible for budgeting and forecasts. Prior to DFT, Foster was chief accounting officer at Global Signal, the first cell tower REIT. Foster currently serves as an independent director on the boards of Broad Street Realty, a publicy traded owner of shopping centers and Vault Digital Infrastructure, a private equity backed data center company. He is the audit committee chair for Broad Street Realty. He also serves on the boards of the Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Coast Chapter and the Child and Family Network Center which provides free pre-K education to underprivileged children in Alexandria, Virginia.

Brian Gill is a co-founding partner of Artis Advisors. Since 2008, Artis has completed more than $5 billion in capitalization and recapitalizations of all commercial asset types in the United States. Prior to forming Artis, Gill was an associate director in the capital markets group at Cushman & Wakefield in Washington, D.C. He serves as adjunct professor of finance and real estate at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and has also taught MBA students at The George Washington University. Gill holds master’s degrees in business and economics from Northwestern University and the London School of Economics and a B.A. from the University of South Florida.

Partner, Healey Development LLC

Jeremy Healey is CEO of BPT Holdings and a partner at Healey Development. Previously, he spent nearly 15 years investing in structured finance and real estate products for Eton Park Capital Management, R6 Capital Management, Goldman Sachs, and Credit Suisse First Boston. Healey received a B.A. from Georgetown University and an MBA from the Wharton School.

President and Founder – Boundary Companies

John Wilkinson is the Founder and Managing Partner of Boundary Companies. Mr. Wilkinson oversees Boundary’s investment, development, asset management, and organizational activities. Since the inception of the company, Mr. Wilkinson has grown the firm’s portfolio by investing in entitlement, vertical development, and existing projects across a range of product types including: industrial; self-storage; market rate and affordable housing; office; and retail assets. Prior to forming Boundary, Mr. Wilkinson served as Senior Vice President in the Investments Group for The JBG Companies. His previous work experience includes roles at The Meridian Group in Washington, D.C. and CB Richard Ellis in the Mid-Atlantic office. Mr. Wilkinson has been recognized by Forums’ 50 Under 40 honorees; by DCA Live as one of Washington D.C.’s 40 under 40 rising stars in real estate; and by the Washington Business Journal as one of the 50 Greater Washington business leaders of the next generation. Mr. Wilkinson received his Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University.
